Answer: The show must go on. The police escorted ride will depart promptly at the designated time rain or shine.

Question: How can I volunteer to help out?
Answer: Volunteers can signup on the website by registering. Volunteer assignments are made on a first come first served basis. Volunteers who will be riding in the event are expected to pay their registration fees.

Question: Where is the 2009 ride being held?
Answer: The next ride will be held at the Goodyear Blimp Air base at the western boundary of the Pompano Air Park located at 1500 NE 5th Avenue, Pompano Beach, Florida 33060.

Question: How much does it cost?
Answer: Registration costs $35.00 per motorcycle. Event T-Shirts are available for a minimum $50.00 donation. Registration includes a light breakfast (donuts, bagels, coffee, and juice) and a light lunch followed by the Celebration of Life program where you’ll meet some of the local survivors that these events have helped.

Question: When should I arrive at the ride location?
Answer: Registration is open from 8 AM and closes at 09:45 with the ride departing at 10:00 AM sharp, rain or shine. You may arrive anytime within the registration window but understand that the earlier you arrive, the closer to the front of the line you will be placed. Please do not arrive prior to the opening of registration as our volunteers will be busy setting up and therefore will be unable to check you in early.

Question: When I arrive can I park anywhere?
Answer: No. Volunteers will direct you to the appropriate parking area and insure that you are properly aligned to allow us to safely park as many motorcycles as possible. You will depart in the same sequence as you arrived. VIP’s, Patient Escorts and Highest earning club will be directed to separate parking locations.

Question: What if I’m arriving in a car?
Answer: Non motorcycle vehicles are asked to park in the existing Goodyear parking lot and will not be allowed into the motorcycle parking area which is located within the airport perimeter and subject to strict security procedures.

Question: Will I be able to ride on the blimp?
Answer: Only if you’re lucky. Blimp rides are not open to the public however Goodyear has provided us with four tickets (two sets of 2) which will be raffled off on or about Friday January 30th. Firm date, time and location will be announced when determined. Additional information on how to buy tickets will be on the website when available. Additional prizes will also be given away as part of the raffle. If you have registered on the website (www.SFRideforKids.org) we will send you an email when additional information is obtained.

Question: Will I be able to see the blimp close-up?
Answer: Yes. While we anticipate the blimp being in the hanger during our Ride for Kids, long range plans sometimes unexpectedly change. If the blimp is in town and in the hanger, we invite everyone to have a close-up view. If the blimp is not in town or tied down outside of the hanger you will be unable to get close-up for security and safety reasons.

Question: How long is the ride and is it safe?
Answer: Safety is our number one priority on the ride. We have teamed with the Broward Sheriff’s Office who will be escorting the ride to control traffic along with local law enforcement officers from the various cities we will be passing through. The ride is generally 40-45 miles in length and lasts about an hour and 15 minutes.

Question: What is the ride route?
Answer: While we never publish the route in advance, rest assured that it will include areas for which South Florida is famous for. Our 2009 ride will be completely different from our 2008 route.

Question: I don’t ride a motorcycle. Can I ride the route in my car?
Answer: Unfortunately, no. Only motorcycles can join us on the ride because of safety concerns. If you know of anyone who rides a motorcycle, please contact them and let them know about our ride and they may allow you to join them as a passenger. Please ask them (and you also) to register on our website (www.SFRidefrKids.org) to help the task force in sizing supplies for the event.
